Creating a Safer Space  (adopted by the Methodist Conference 2007)
As the people of the Methodist Church we are concerned with the wholeness of each individual with God’s purpose for everyone. We seek to safeguard all members of the Church community with all ages.

What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • Protecting Children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and undertaking that role so as to enable children to have optimum life chances and to enter adulthood successfully

Safeguarding includes Vulnerable Adults
A vulnerable adult is defined as Any adult aged 18 or over who by reason of mental or other disability, age, illness or other situation is permanently or for the time being unable to take care of her or himself or to protect her or himself from significant harm or exploitation.’
