Regular Meetings at Oakley Methodist Church
"This is our God"
Just what is He like? The Bible is supposed to reveal the nature and character of God but isn’t the emerging revelation of God somewhat confused? On the one hand God orders adulterers to be stoned to death and then Jesus seems to allow a woman caught in adultery to go free. What is that about?
How do we reconcile the apparent involvement of God in Old Testament genocide with the Jesus who says in Matthew 5, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.”
How does that work? How do these things fit together? Puzzled?
Anyone is welcome to join us for these evenings to investigate what this God is like that we Christians worship.We shall attempt to explore and unravel these and other apparent anomalies through our Bible focus evenings at Wednesday Worship at the Chapel by the Pond in September and October. We meet every Wednesday for “Prayer and Praise” on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month and for interactive talks and Bible study on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. These evenings start at 7.30pm and finish promptly at 9pm. During the evening there is a short break for light refreshments.
For more information please contact Brian or Thelma.
A more detailed programme will be available soon.
The Monday Club
"The Monday Club" is a fellowship and social group, meetings start at 7.30pm.
They have three programmes a year - Winter/Spring, Summer and Autumn with breaks for Christmas, Easter and August. In the Winter/Spring and Autumn sessions we have quite a wide variety of items in our programme - e.g. Holiday etc slides, "Give Us a Clue", Talks, Music Evenings, "Something Old, Something New", Games, Quizzes, Tapes and CDs, Carols etc, including Pot Luck Suppers!
This operates from 10am to 12 noon and is essentially a "pop in and chat" morning; proceeds go towards the church's chosen charity for the year. At the moment the charge is 50p for a "bottomless" cup of tea or coffee and biscuits.
These are usually held on the first Saturday of the months between October and March from 12 noon until 2pm.
Homemade soup and delicious desserts are available and donations are invited to cover the costs.
Three Soup Saturdays for the 2017/2018 season have been planned and will be held on:
7th October 2017:
4th November 2017;
2nd December 2017;
6th January 2018;
